Corruption still a problem in Georgia

Elite corruption is still a problem in Georgia, according to the US State Department report published on April 8. The document revealed that although the level of minor corruption since the rose revolution in 2003 has deceased, elite corruption is still prominent in the country. The observers from the US department suggest that anti corruption campaigning in Georgia has not been targeted towards the elite. They are pursuing the problem in a more punitive than systemic manner. It also worth noting that the State Department report expressed its concern over the intimidation of businesses by state structures. Of course defeating corruption at consumer level is an achievement proving that Georgian society can operate with less corruption, as for the elite corruption the ruling authorities categorically deniy its existence. However the opposition challenges the authorities' denial and the recent report of the US State Department proves that the opposition is not far away from reality.
