Georgian citizenship

In 2004-2010 more than 25 000 people applied for and received Georgian citizenship. According to the information from the civil registry, most of the people who received Georgian citizenship were former Georgian citizens who had left the country to reside elsewhere. But starting from 2004 it has become easier to receive dual citizenship and some of these emigrants have decided to take this opportunity. Holders of Russian, Israeli, Ukrainian and Greek citizenship of Georgian ethnicity have received Georgian citizenship. In 2009-2011 citizenship of Georgia was given up by 2479 of its citizens.
