Mikheil Saakashvili – I Cannot be Putin for many reasons
President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili has given an interview to the Ukrainian TV channel “1+1”.
The President has spoken about his political future, trust in the police and the new presidential palace.
Saakashvili responded to a journalist’s question as to whether he would seek a third presidential term, Saakashvili answers that it is impossible according to the constitution.
“Doest it mean that you will be a Prime Minister like Putin?”
“No, first of all, I can not be Putin for many reasons, it is a different country with different situation”, Mikheil Saakashvili said.
“You can not run for Prime Minister?” the journalist asked Georgia’s President.
“No, theoretically it is possible. This possibility is useful for me. I will directly tell you why – we carry out the most important reforms now and if I am a politician without perspective, the reforms have no chance. That’s why the perspective remains. I think that we have three years; we have an important year to move parliament to another city, carry out educational reform, modernize various fields of economy, decentralize the government and achieve full democratization. A strong president is needed for this; you have to keep perspective to be a strong president. We’ll change the country so that nobody will recognize it. It is more important for us what will be after 6 months, a year or two, than what will happen in three years and half”, Mikheil Saakashvili said.
Saakashvili says that the construction of the new presidential palace cost approximately 20 million euros.
Mikheil Saakashvili answered a journalist's question “whether police will always help him if something happens”, “We are loops of one chain. They know that we are purposeful, right and honest”, Mikheil Saakashvili said. (Interpressnews)
Bilateral Consultations held between Foreign Departments of Georgia and Israel
The next round of bilateral consultations were held between foreign departments of Georgia and Israel at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia.
The Georgian side was headed by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Davit Jalaghania, Israeli’s delegation was headed by Deputy Director General of Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pinkhas Avivi.
They discussed issues of bilateral cooperation, cooperation with international organizations and events in the Middle East and North Africa. The parties expressed their readiness to continue active work to deepen cooperation between the two countries in various fields.
Israel reiterated its support to Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Davit Jalaghania and Deputy Director General of Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pinkhas Avivi signed a “memorandum of mutual understanding on holding bilateral consultations between Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia and Israel’s Ministry of Foreign affairs. Georgian MOD Informs that Reservists are Exempted to Attend May 26 Parade
Reservists are being released from military bases to attend May 26 parade, InterPressNews was told about it by head of press office of MOD Salome Makharadze .
Makharadze informs that the decision was taken by the department regarding May 26 parade.
“Some of the reservists expressed their desire to have right to attend the parade. The ministry decided to enable them to attend the parade. It was resolved to expend the reservists from the base”, Salome Makharadze said.
She says that there is no obligation and reservist must serve a concrete term. A reservist must undergo 45 days of training in a year. (Interpressnews)
Opposition leader thanks Russia for support
One of the leaders of the People`s Council, famous chess player Nona Gaprindashvili, has thanked Russia for its open support to their rallies. Nona Gaprindashvili ignored the question of the 1st Channel news presenter who asked why she did not object to the biased coverage of opposition rallies and the situation in the Georgian capital by Russian media.
Instead of slamming the Kremlin for false information, Nona Gaprindashvili thanked the Russian leadership for supporting the opposition rallies and for the statement released by the Russian Foreign Ministry yesterday.
The Russian Foreign Ministry openly supported the rallies organized by the People`s Council in Tbilisi since May 21 in a special statement published on Monday. The statement said Saakashvili`s regime was oppressing freedom of speech and causing provocations. (Rustavi 2)
Bagapsh`s health state critical after surgery
The health of the Abkhazian puppet leader Sergey Bagapsh has worsened after surgery and the patient has been returned to the intensive treatment department. Bagapsh underwent an operation on his lungs at one of the clinics in Moscow.
Russian news agencies are reporting that the patient felt better after the surgery, however, his health state worsened last night.
Russian doctors say Bagapsh is connected to a respirator and his health is not good. (Rustavi 2)
Vice PM awards competition winners
Vice Premier Giorgi Baramidze awarded the winners of the first competition of the Black Sea Pool Coastal Cooperation Program today. The winners of the competition have been awarded with certificates.
The first competition, which aims at gaining international grants, have been won by seven organizations for successful projects in the spheres of tourism, environmental protection, urban development and cultural cooperation.
The program aims at supporting cooperation and joint regional initiatives on the level of NGO sector, local self-governments, state universities and scientific-research institutions. (Rustavi 2)
