The EU is very much concerned about the implementation of the NABUCCO project; therefore it is offering Azerbaijan wider possibilities to get involved in the project. The EU considers Azerbaijan as a major partner for implementing this South corridor project. In particular it suggests that Azerbaijan becomes the co – owner of natural gas infrastructure thereby making it easier for Baku to have access to the European markets. The EU is ready to consider Azerbaijan not only as the main supplier of the project but also as a transit country. It is understood that Turkmenistan will join the project and therefore Azerbaijan will transit Turkmen gas into Europe. All these developments became known after the visit to Baku on June 8 of the EU commissioner for energy issues.
