Saakashvili joyous at opening of First Clinical Hospital

On July 11 the Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili opened a new multi-profile university hospital on the territory of the First Clinical Hospital of Tbilisi. The President said people could only dream about such hospitals 3-4 years ago.

“Serious work has been done. People could only dream about such a hospital 2-4 years ago. Our programme about building 100 hospitals became a programme of 160-170 hospitals. The major thing is that in Georgia we have very wise and smart doctors who work all around the world. It seems we create a proper system because some of those who work abroad return to Georgia. People should have an opportunity to carry out medical treatment in their country. During recent years a huge amount of money had been flown to foreign countries as our citizens were going abroad for adequate medical treatment. This should be over,” the President said and added the key goal of the government now was to make health insurance available for every citizen of Georgia.

The President also emphasized the importance of the free program of dialysis treatment. Saakashvili said the situation was very hard in this sphere a few years ago, but today the hospital serves any person, who is in need of dialysis.
