In the not too distant past, Director of Azeri center of strategic planning Ahmed Shirinov initiated the idea of creating an Azeri-Turkish-Georgian political and economic union. This would be an entity very similar to the EU with idea of creating a common currency, customs system and other attributes. The idea also envisages the creation of a common parliament, government and other systems. By suggesting this idea Shirinov targets the isolation of Armenia from the activities in the region as well as moving this region out of the control of Russia. Shirinov brought different arguments in favour of this project and the benefits the countries will receive. He also considers that Georgia would benefit most of all out of this union. Theoretically this union would be open for any country provided they followed the rules.
