Fighting obsolete cars

Recently the re-exporting of second hand cars has become one of the main areas of the Georgian economy. It has increased the number of exports from the country. But it looks like new regulations of the Georgian authorities could damage this business. The state is declaring war on old cars; to be more precise - to the very old ones. A draft law has been elaborated by the Ministries of Economy and Transport which allows no cars which are older than 15 years to be sold on Georgian territory. Whereas, the transport vehicles imported to Georgia shouldn’t be older than 20 years. The Parliament is to adopt the law in autumn 2011. Most probably these measures will decrease the re-export of cars from Georgia despite the fact that many of the cars are still in working condition. However, from the environmentals point of view this might be the right decision.
