Georgia has not become an oil producing country

Geologists think that considering Georgia's neighboring countries' gas and oil reserves it could itself also be producing at least some oil and natural gas. Some explorations carried out in the country identified possible reserves of oil and gas on Georgian territory. During the soviet period, in the beginning of the eighties around three million tons of oil was extorted in Georgia, there are some reserves in the country’s territory think the analysts. According to the data of 2009, there is produced in Georgia around 44 000 tons of oil. Some economic analysts, however think that it would be much better if Georgia develops its tourist infrastructure, reinforces the agricultural sector and starts producing organic food, rather than introducing oil and gas.
