Situation on Georgian Motorways

According to recent statistics, the number of car crashes in Georgia has decreased. The MIA explains this by the strict sanctions introduced and the obligatory usage of seatbelts. The major reason for car crashes is speeding. In 2009 there were 5,482 car crashes resulting in 741 deaths. The same year in Tbilisi there were 2,595 car crashes with 198 casualties. In 2010 there were 5,099 car crashes resulting in 685 people losing their lives. In Tbilisi in the same year 2,827 car crashes were recorded taking the lives of 203 people. In the eight months of 2011 in the country 2,842 car crashes were registered killing 320 people. From this number in Tbilisi there were 1,341 car crashes killing 90 people.
