Russian Public on Possibility of Post-Soviet Integration

The Russian Centre for Public Opinion Studies has carried out special research to determine the opinions of the Russian population as to who would be the best partner for Russia in the post Soviet space. Of the respondents, 23% support the idea of restoring the Soviet Union on a voluntary and equal basis. Around 15% support establishing a customs union while 10 % favor establishing a Eurasian Union. Polling was carried out in some of the former Soviet Union countries. Most keen on integration are the Kyrgyz with 67% and the Belarusians with 62%. According to the Russian population the most stable country is Kazakhstan, then Belarus, the most successful countries are Ukraine, Armenia and Azerbaijan. The most instable country is Tajikistan. The research was carried out this October with more than 4,500 participants.
