Armenia mainly uses Iranian natural gas to secure its energy safety in case of problems receiving major gas supply from Russia. In 2012, Armenia plans to reduce plans for the import of natural gas from Iran as a result of increase of supply from Russia. From Iran so far Armenia was receiving natural gas in return supplying Iran with electricity. The exchange rate between the two countries was three kilowatt hours of electricity in return for 1 cubic meter of Iranian gas.
