Iranian officials claimed some time ago that in the Iranian section of the Caspian Sea, 90 kilometers from the Iranian coastline at 700 meters depth, new reserves of natural gas were found. According to primary estimations the reserve is more than 3.5 trillion cubic meters. The Iranian leadership considers that the reserves found in the Caspian Sea will completely change the energy balance in the region. The drilling was carried out from an Iranian platform in the sea.
