The visit to Switzerland

Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure Ramaz Nikolaishvili held an official visit to Switzerland. During the visit Georgian delegation led by Minister for Regional Development and Infrastructure, visited Geneva where the delegation met the General Secretary of International Road Transport Union (IRU) –Martin Marmy. The major road and rail projects of Georgia have been discussed on the meeting. Martin Marmy appraised positively infrastructure growth of Georgia and noted that the Highway Construction - Rehabilitation Project will contribute to interest international shipping companies in the transport corridor of our country. Marmy promised to help in the process of introducing an electronic system for simplification of freight forwading. General Secretary of IRU has focused his attention on the ratings of the World Bank and Fitch according which Georgia is on the leading positions by the simplicity of doing business, as well as by other indices of economic freedom. This rating indicates a significant improvement of the economic indicators, which will facilitate the inflow of foreign investments in the country.

During his visit to Switzerland in Bern Nikolaishvili met with the head of the road department, Jurgen Rotisberg. The sides discussed the issues: innovations and safety of road infrastructure, the latest storage methods of road maintenance, the modern technologies of construction of bridges and tunnels. At the meeting the sides agreed to sign a Memorandum between the Department of Roads of Georgia and Switzerland, according to which Georgian specialists will be trained in Switzerland. During the visit, the Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia has met with Peter Fuglistaler, Director of the Federal Office of Transport (FOT). Fuglistale has interested in ongoing railway project in Georgia, especially in railway project, namely, Marabda - Kartsakhi railway line, which will be equipped with modern technologies of carts shifts. Director of the Federal Office of Transport appreciated the project and noted that the new rail line will help to increase turnover and transportation of cargo from east to west quickly and safely.
