bmi brings Scottish culture a little closer to home

Burns Night, the celebration of the life and poetry of Robert Burns, is renowned across the world, and is one of the most globally celebrated of Scotland’s national days.

To celebrate the annual event, Burns suppers will be taking place across Scotland on and around the 25th of January, with traditional food such as cock-a-leekie soup, haggis and Clootie dumplings, and entertainment in the form of bagpipe music and ceilidh dancing.

bmi, British Midland International, Heathrow’s second largest airline, is committed to promoting and developing links between Georgian and British cultures, and as such will be helping to bring Burns Night celebrations to Georgia in 2012.

bmi is flying the Glencraig Scottish Dance Band to Georgia, in order for the band to play for the guests of the annual Robert Burns charity evening on the 4th February 2012, followed by the Gala dinner. The event will consist of a five course, traditional gourmet dinner, bagpipes, Burns poetry, and dancing to the band’s live music. bmi will fly the band members to travel from Edinburgh in Scotland to Tbilisi, providing the Georgian audience with the opportunity to enjoy authentic Scottish music at the celebrations.

This is not Glencraig’s first visit to Georgia, as this is the third consecutive year bmi has flown the band to Tbilisi to play at the annual charity event.
