Nationality census in Russian Federation

According to data released by the Russian media, 111 million people registered themselves as ethnically Russian in a census of the Russian Federation, out of a total population of 143 million. The next largest ethnic group reported was Tatar, at 5.3 million persons, followed by Ukrainian at 1.9 million, Bashkir at 1.5 million, Chuvash and Chechen both with 1.4 million, Armenian with 1.1 million, Avar at 0.9 million, Mordov at 0.7 million, and Kazakh with 0.6 million. The number of Georgians was not reported.
