During the recent economic summit at Davos, President Ilham Aliev of Azerbaijan refused to sign an agreement with Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovich to provide Azeri natural gas to Ukraine. The Azeri government claims that that Ukraine provides Armenia with firearms, training, and combat planes. “If they want to buy gas they should not sell arms to Armenia,” said an Azeri representative. According to the botched deal, Azeri gas would be transported by pipeline to the Kulevi-Georgian Black sea terminal, where it would be liquefied and transported to Ukrainian ports.
