Freedom of assembly conference held in Tbilisi

From February 3-4, UN Special Rapporteur on the rights to freedom of peaceful assembly and association, Maina Kiai, held consultations with Caucasian human rights advocates, hosted by Human Rights House Tbilisi. Further discussions with Georgian government officials are to be held from February 6-13.

Kiai and regional human rights advocates met with Georgian journalists on February 4 to discuss how the rights to freedom of assembly and association are implemented in Georgia, Azerbaijan, and Armenia.

Participants included Ucha Nanuashvili, Executive Director of the Human Rights Centre and the coordinator of the South Caucasus Network of Human Rights Defenders in Georgia; Integam Aliyev from Azerbaijan, the leader of Legal Foundation Society, which coordinates the work of the South Caucasus Network of Human Rights Defenders in Azerbaijan; Mikael Danielyan, the leader of the Armenian Helsinki Association in Armenia, coordinator of the South Caucasus Network of Human Rights Defenders in Armenia and one of the partners involved in the establishment of Human Rights House in Yerevan.
