Food products exempt from VAT

A new amendment has been introduced to the tax code, exempting agricultural products from the VAT.

Supporters of the amendment express their confidence that this will decrease the price of food. Some analysts, however, challenge this optimism. They believe that this will bring relief only to large supermarket chains and food processing companies, not everyday consumers.
