Overall lari currency circulation in Georgia has increased fourfold since the 2003 Rose Revolution, now reaching approximately 1.5 billion GEL. Analysts cite the increase in prices since that time, and the growing economy.
In March 2004 there was approximately half a billion lari circulating in Georgia. By 2007, it had reached the one billion mark. In 2008, due to the August war and global economic crisis, circulation fell.
Economic analyst Lia Eliava told Rezonansi that the government should increase circulation in order to stimulate economic growth.
