The International Monetary Fund has released a World Economic Outlook report that predicts Georgia will become the leader in the region, according to improving economic growth indicators.
It expects the economy to grow by 5% in 2012 and 6% in 2013, while the Azeri economy is expected to grow by only 3.1% this year, and just only 1% next year. Armenia is predicted to see growth, but at a much smaller rate than Georgia – 3.8% in 2012 and 4% in 2013.
Azerbaijan still has the largest economy in the region.
While this is good news for Georgia, the government still expects double-digit growth rates for the coming years.
