In 2012, wheat was seeded in 40,000 hectares of Georgian land and optimistic estimates of yield was 65,000 tonnes - less than the country grew in 2011.
Georgia consumes more than 600,000 tonnes of wheat annually, but produces less than 10% of its supply. Part of the reason is that fewer fields are being dedicated to wheat production.
