No new metro stations for time being

The Tbilisi municipality was forced to stop construction of a new metro line and station due to the lack of finances. However on May 26, the Georgian president promised that by 2015, Tbilisi metro will run all the way to Mtskheta. Today, the Tbilisi metro consists of 22 stations and 2 lines covering 26.4 km. The metro began running in Georgia in 1966, January 11. There were plans to open extra stations and prolong the lines but collapse of the Soviet Union frustrated this plan. After the Rose Revolution they began work in certain directions, but today everything has been stopped. The metro is expensive to construct, though once constructed it runs for many years and eventually creates benefits for the country.
