Two months ago, newly appointed PM Vano Merabishvili created the Ministry of Employment though which he planned to combat unemployment. New minister Paata Trapaidze started a new project of detecting and identifying the unemployed and created a new list of such persons. From July 21 until the end of September there were officially registered more than 500 000 citizens of Georgia as unemployed, whereas officially in Georgia were so far registered only 300 000 unemployed. Official statistics stated that by the end of 2011 there were around 2 million economically active in the country. This number does not include retired people and children.
