In 2011, the service of the business ombudsman was established in Georgia as a state structure. This initiative was targeted at protecting businessmen during the taxation disputes mainly between the state and private entities. Recently, the former director general of ProCreditBank, Maia Meredova, took the position. While commenting on her appointment, Meredova highlighted the problems which small and medium sized businesses in Georgia face. She also highlighted the problems businessmen face while interpreting tax codes, thus, there appear many technical mistakes which unfortunately result in fines and this situation deteriorates the overall atmosphere and business sector in Georgia.
