Should casinos be closed?

The new Georgian leadership is set to either close casinos or impose some restrictions. Vice speaker to be, Murman Dumbadze, says that a lot of young people are attracted by casinos and lose a huge amount of money. This in turn leads them to committing violations and even suicide. Rezonansi asked public figures in Georgia their opinion on this matter.

Rati Durglishvili, singer: I welcome the decision to ban casinos in the country, because I have been witness several times how people become frustrated and disappointed after losing games. I know how many people are now homeless because they could not cover their debts. However I think businesses will not be happy with this decision, but my priority is the safety of our friends and people.”

Manuchar Machaidze, former football player: “I have never been to the casino in my life. I have no idea what it is. Although I am very well aware how much of a bad influence it has on the people, so I agree with the idea that casinos should be banned in Georgia like in many countries.”

David Gomarteli, singer: “I really appreciate the idea and I am a supporter of it. I am against casinos being located in the center of Tbilisi. It would probably be better if the casinos are placed outside of the city where fewer youngsters go and play. Unfortunately, even schoolchildren are attracted to the casino games these days.”



Inga Grigolia fields job offers

Former TV anchor, and member of the Tbilisi City Council, Inga Grigolia, has decided to leave politics and her party, the Christian Democratic Movement, right before the elections. She says that she will be back at the TV channel soon. In her interview with Alia, Grigolia says that she has several interesting offers from various TV stations, however she still keeps thinking.

“I am very grateful for Maestro Director Mamuka Glonti, who was the first to offer me the job at his channel. But now, the most realistic offer is from TV Mze and I am thinking seriously about it,” Grigolia says.

It is noteworthy that the owner of TV Mze was a businessman named Vano Chkhartishvili– now living in exile in London. After the Rose Revolution, the government forced Chkhartishvili to leave the TV Company. Grigolia says that if Ivanishvili’s new government is serious about justice in the country, then they should give Chkhartishvili his TV Company back. Grigolia says that she is leaving for London in the coming days to meet Chkhartishvili.
