Are Resource Officers acceptable for you?

Incoming Minister of Education Giorgi Margvelashvili has proposed abolishing the position of resource officers in state schools. According to Margvelashvili resource officers put unnecessary pressure on school principals, teachers and children and their activities are detrimental to teaching and school administration.

Rezonansi asked various public figures whether they want their children to go to schools where resource officers are working.

Imeda Kakhiani, actor: There weren’t resource officers when I was at school, we had a lot of respect towards teachers and we scarcely damaged any school property. There was respect towards teachers at that time and there was no need to have resource officers at schools. I think there should be friendship between teachers and schoolchildren.

Tatuli Edisherashvili, actress: I have no idea what the function of resource officers at schools is. I think it’s more important to revise school curricula and raise the level of education among schoolchildren. However, I should add that if the institute of resource officers is abolished, many people will lose their jobs, which is very bad.

Maka Zambakhidze, singer: My daughter goes to school but she says she has never had any contact with resource officers. Therefore I can’t say anything good or bad about them.

Zakareishvili: I received all answers in Geneva. According to Rezonansi incoming Minister of Reintegration Paata Zakariahsvili said that he recently participated in the Geneva talks between Russia and Georgia. Zakariashvili has expressed his gratitude towards Georgian delegation members Sergi Kapanadze and Irakli Porchkhidze for inviting him to participate in the discussions over the breakaway regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia. Zakareishvili added that the transfer of power is occurring transparently. All his questions were answered and now he thoroughly understands the position of the outgoing government on the issues of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
