During the former United National Movement (UNM) administration various ambitious public projects were started. Some of them will be continued but others have already been cancelled. For instance, the new government has declared a halt to the construction of the proposed new city of Lazika on the Black Sea coast. The same will probably go for the proposed resort town of Anaklia. However there at least one project that will be continued as it is in Georgia's economic interests to complete it. This is the construction of the highway connecting the Black Sea ports of Batumi and Poti with Tbilisi and onwards to Armenia and Azerbaijan. The section from Tbilisi to Gori is already functioning and completion of the highway will greatly facilitate shipping goods across the Caucasus and beyond.
