Georgian university students hold mock U.S. presidential debate and election

In light of the U.S. presidential election on Nov. 6, 2012, the American Friendship Club and the American Friendship Youth Club carried out a mock U.S. presidential debate and election. Students from universities located in Tbilisi participated in the event. Two groups of nine debaters were chosen, one to represent the platform of the Republican Party and other the Democratic Party.
On November 5th a primary election was held in which each team chose their presidential candidate. On November 6th after the debate between the two candidates the audience voted. Voters for the mock election were selected from academic staff and students of different universities. The number of voters was uneven to prevent an evenly divided vote.
The mock election was held at the offices of the American-Georgian company World Medicine and was attended by representatives of the U.S. Embassy in Tbilisi as well as representatives of Peace Corps.
The winner of the mock election was the Republican candidate.
