How people evaluate the 9th anniversary of the Rose Revolution

Nine years have passed since the Rose Revolution on November 23. Due to the mass street rallies in 2003, President Eduard Shevardnadze resigned and the government was peacefully changed. Mass public protest was followed after the election which were held on November 2, Rezonansi reports.

It should be emphasized that the United National Movement did not mark the ninth anniversary of the Rose Revolution. President Mikheil Saakashvili attended a liturgy at Bagrati Cathedral dedicated to Saint George’s Day on November 23.

Tamriko Chokhonelidze (singer): People were united in 2003. We all were watching with great hope the new government. However, this change was useful to the society. When the United National Movement came to power as a new force, it made some positive steps like arresting criminals and addressing safety and order. Such steps were really nice and acceptable. Georgians were no longer afraid to freely walk in the streets. However, the Rose administration later made many mistakes. I hope that the new government will not repeat the old mistakes. "

Giga Nasaridze (Georgia not for Sale) (NGO), Founder: The Rose Revolution gave the country a very large chance to become a member of a large family of Western Europe. Many steps have been made in terms of integration with NATO and in infrastructural development. The economy has increased the budget and I assess these nine-years positively.

Irma Sokhadze (singer): I am happy that nine years have been passed since the Rose Revolution; I am happy that everything is over and it is history. Nine years has passed and I look at the future with hope. I congratulate the people on the St George’s Day celebration, but not with the date of the Rose revolution.



Great Britain granted political asylum to Vano Chkhartishvili

Rezonansi writes that the United Kingdom has granted political asylum to Georgian businessman Vano Chkhartishvili. This information has been released by the press officer for Chkhartishvili. According to the statement, Ckhartishvili and the Government of Great Britain has acknowledged his proposal and now it is Georgia’s turn to admit him as a person suffering from political pressure.

Ckhartishvili has been abroad living in the UK since 2010.
