Fire destroys Georgian forests
Wednesday, November 28
In 2011, summer fires destroyed 430 hectares of forests in Georgia and for three months the firemen combated the fire. This disaster is very dangerous for Georgian nature and there is a worldwide experience for taking measures to avoid forest fires. So far, enough preventive measures are not taken in the country due to lack of trained personnel in special facilities and regiments for combating forest fires. Specifically, large scale damage was detected during the Russian military attack in 2008, when the Russian Air Force deliberately bombarded forests in the Borjomi area causing fire and destroying forests.
