Labor code issues
Thursday, November 29
After the Georgian Dream became the new government, several workers' strikes took place. Trade unions interfered in the disputes and eventually all sides began speculating on the serious gaps in the existing labor code in Georgia. Before a new labor code is adopted, certain amendments will be introduced. For instance, many employees have complained that employers discharge them without providing the reasons and without warning. So in the new amendments introduced in the labor code there will be no 1-2 months agreement which were the practice before. The employer has a liability to warn employees 30 days prior to their dismissal. The labor code under the Rose administration was criticized in Georgia and in European countries as well. The EU demanded that the Georgian government change it several times. So, presumably this parliament will decide to have new labor code in Georgia.
