TIFF opens on December 3rd

The Tbilisi International Film Festival (TIFF) will introduce the new faces of European cinema and directors who are creating the cinema of the future in its international competition of feature length films. Spain (Anja Salomonowitz) ; Everybody’s Gone ( Georgy Paradzhanov), Children of Sarajevo (Aida Begic); Seagull (Miguel Angel Jimenez); Certain People (Levan Akin) ; The Shine of a Day (Tizza Covi & Rainer Frimmel); Vacuum (Giorgio Cugno); Eastalgia (Daria Onyshchenko); Keep Smiling (Rusudan Chkonia) and Loving (Slawomir Fabicki) will compete for the golden and silver Prometheus awards for Best Film and Best Director.
This year TIFF will have a special focus on Iranian filmmakers, especially the Makhmalbaf family. Their four films will be screened. The international jury will be chaired by Mohsen Makhmalbaf, together with Academy Award winning creenwriter and playwright Christopher Hampton (UK); film/TV director Nicolas Wadimoff (Switzerland); film actress Dinara Drukarova (Russia/France) and Georgian film/theatre actor Nika Tavadze.
2013 is an important year for German-French relations. 50 years ago the Elysee Treaty ended centuries of rivalry between the two countries and established a new foundation for their relationship. The Goethe Institute in Tbilisi and French Institute in Georgia will present a show-case of cinema masterpieces illustrating French-German relations in cinema and life. The program will present not only feature films but documentaries of French-German channel ARTE.
ARTE program opens with Georg Wilhelm Pabst's 1930 masterpiece Westfront 1918, which takes place during the First World War in France.
Arte France and Arte Germany will present ten films in total, including The Trace (Naomi Kawase); Far from Heaven (Stephanie Lamorre); Mozart Superstar (Mathias Goudeau) ; The Flat (Arnon Goldfinger) and Pina (Wim Wenders).
TIFF promises unforgettable adventures through avant-garde films. By sharing the venue with Georgian and foreign actors, directors and producers TIFF will become your favorite destination.
Opening with Istvan Szabo’s The Door on December 3rd the festival will last through December 9th and offer intellectual films to cinema-goers at the Amirani and Rustaveli cinemas for the symbolic cost of 2 GEL.
