European Union supports implementation of TANAP – Trans Anatolian gas pipeline project. It wants to get it underway as soon as possible because Europe hopes to solve its energy dependence regarding Russia. So far, Russia is the major provider of natural gas to Europe and it wants to expand further its dominating role in this direction. It actively promotes the construction of the South Stream gas pipeline on the Black Sea bed. Meanwhile demand for natural gas in Europe keeps increasing. The TANAP project will make it possible for Azeri gas to be transported to Europe via Georgia and Turkey. It is still possible to continue the implementation of NABUCCO project as well, although with less enthusiasm.
