Representative of the Armenian community in Abkhazia Galust Trapizonian stated recently that in return for Armenia’s entry into Eurasian Union the Abkhazian railway line connecting Russia with Armenia via Georgia should be reopened. Having a railway connection to Russia would increase Armenia's connections to the outside world and lessen its dependence on the Georgian ports of Poti and Batumi for imports. Armenia's land borders with Turkey and Azerbaijan are closed and its only routes to the outside world are via its borders with Georgia and Iran.
