Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan does not exclude Turkey’s possible joining of the Shanghai cooperation organization. The Turkish PM also mentioned that he spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin about the issue. Erdogan thinks that by doing so, his country will quit its claims to join the EU. According to the PM, his country cannot wait an infinite amount of time to join the EU. It looks like the EU does not have much good will in this direction. According to Erdogan, the EU does not want Turkey to join the organization. In search of an alternative, Turkey might consider joining the Shanghai cooperation organization. This organization is a regional body established by Russia, China, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan in 2001. Iran, Mongolia, India and Pakistan are its observer members.
