More than 8, 300 inmates released as a result of large-scale amnesty in Georgia

According to the data of Mach 14, 2013, 8, 339 inmates were released as a result of the large- scale amnesty in Georgia. There are speculations that an additional 800 people could be released soon as well.
As a result, the number of inmates in Georgia has decreased considerably. In January of last year, Georgia had more than 24, 000 inmates in the prisons.
Besides those in the prisons, there were more than 12, 000 persons with suspended sentences in Georgia. This number also decreased considerably. Some of them were pardoned completely; the rest received a commutation of their sentence.
