Georgian Dream refrains from financial amnesty

United National Movement lawmakers have submitted a proposed bill in Parliament that would provide financial amnesty to certain businesses. Under the proposed bill, small and medium-sized businesses would be pardoned of any penalties they were supposed to pay before January 1, 2013. There are almost a quarter of a million tax-payers registered in Georgia who owe taxes and penalties exceeding 4.5 billion lari. As the Georgian Dream majority strongly disapproves of such an amnesty, it seems unlikely that the proposed bill will be passed into law.
