The ea industry in Georgia used to provide almost 100% of the Soviet Union with tea. However, since the collapse of the USSR, the Georgian tea industry has declined and deteriorated. During the last 4-5 years, the Georgian tea industry has been producing around 4, 000 tons of tea. That is around 10% of Georgian consumption. So 90% of the tea Georgians drink is provided by imported products. Today Georgia consumes mostly Indian-produced tea which is imported in the country sometimes directly, but mostly via Azerbaijan. Analysts think that much of the imported products are of low quality.
