Rezonansi reports that 96 dead and 239 injured were registered in 2010-2011 as a result of different types of accidents while performing their duties at the workplace. This is an alarming figure giving possibility to the conclusion that the labor security is not protected in the relevant level in Georgia. Georgia joined the Agreement of Labor Security Inspection in 1995 demanded by the European Union (EU). However, in 2006, at the initiative of then Minister of Economy Kakha Bendukidze, the whole paragraph stipulated in the Labor Code regarding the protection of the labor was abolished. Georgia is not a member of international documents protecting the work of employees. The system of workers’ insurance is badly organized. Currently, this issue has become a matter of discussion and new amendments are envisaged in this direction.
