To issue 5 million GEL for rehabilitating parliament building is not relevant to law

Liberali reports that Transparency International Georgia made a statement about the financing rehabilitation of the old parliamentary building estimated at GEL 5 million taken from the state budget. According to the organization, a tender on rehabilitating the building was announced on April 5 this year, while according to the tender documentation, the building is being rehabilitated to return the legislative body from Kutaisi to the capital Tbilisi.

The NGO stressed that according to Article 481 of the state constitution, Kutaisi has been defined as the only place for the Georgian parliament. Thus, this is from where the legislative body can operate and exercise its own authority.

Despite the fact that the current administration filed a new initiative in December 2012 to remove this particular article from the state document, the changes have not yet been approved by MPs. “The Parliamentary Chairman said on February 20, it cannot be introduced for voting until the end of the spring session,” Transparency International reports.

Media union Obieqtivi stops functioning

Netgazeti reports that according to Irma Inashvili, the Obieqtivi media union has stopped functioning. According to representatives of the media union, Irma Inashvili, she has made this statement on air. “This is my decision and I addressed the members of board (to satisfy it),” she said.

Inashvili did not specify the reasons why she took such a decision. However, she said the TV channel needs to be reorganized. Inashvili also suggested carrying out a survey of the audience who watch Obieqtivi. She also thinks to change the net (of programs) and broadcasting as a whole.

However, Inashvili said all these reasons are not connected with the suspension of the broadcasting. Refusing to talk about the main reasons for suspending broadcasting she told Netgazeti the information will become public after the meeting with the board.
