CEC Chairman says people should be encouraged to have biometric passports
Interpressnews reports that the Head of the Central Election Commission (CEC), Zurab Kharatishvili, said a special mechanism needs to be created to motivate Georgian citizens to take new biometrical ID cards. Otherwise, the Head of CEC thinks that tens of thousands of people may not find their names in the election lists during the elections which will be based on biometric data.
Kharatishvili said at a meeting with the inter-faction group working on election legislation that the idea of identifying voters through the biometric photos is acceptable, but not everyone is willing to do so. Thus, as a result, many people will remain outside the voters list.
