Prospects of reviving silk production

Historically, Georgia is known as an essential part of the so-called "Silk Road". Silk production was once a major industry in Georgia. There is a very unique silk museum in Georgia which is more than a hundred years old. During the Soviet regime, in particular in the 1960s, Georgia was producing over 4, 000 tones of silk cells. More than a hundred thousand families were involved in this business. Later, this branch of industry declined and almost died out. However, the current Ministry of Agriculture has created a project to revive the industry and discussions between the Ministry and the EU are underway. Two or three years are needed to start reviving the industry, and if everything goes well, several thousand jobs will be created with the potential for even greater employment.
