A new subject preparing for family life to be launched at schools

Front News reports that Patriarch Ilia II initiated teaching a new subject at high schools which would prepare the students for family life.

Ilia II said at the presentation of the Georgian Demographic Development Foundation at Tbilisi State Concert Hall on Sunday that he is the seventh child in his family. “Seven is a lucky number and happy are the parents who have even more children,”

Ilia II said the low level of culture in families should be improved by launching a special subject: teaching about family life at high schools.

Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili also attended the concert with his family.

At the end of the presentation, Head of the Foundation, Dimitri Khundadze, gave symbolic demographic trees of the foundation to the Patriarch and PM.



CDM initiates increase of subsistence minimum

Front News reports that the Christian-Democratic Movement (CDM) demands an increase in the subsistence minimum. CDM leader, Levan Vepkhvadze, said at a press conference on Monday that his team has addressed the Parliament with the legislative initiative to make the substance minimum closer to reality.

According to Vepkhvadze, the current subsistence minimum is being calculated according to the norms approved in 1995-96 which considers 70% consumer basket, and 30% - non-product needs.

Suggesting having a balance between product and non-product needs, the CDM initiated increasing the subsistence minimum to 250 GEL so that 125 GEL could be considered for product needs, and the remaining 125 GEL – for other needs. Vepkhvadze encouraged the government to discuss the initiative as soon as possible.
