EU, World Bank to provide financial assistance to Georgian refugees

The European Union and the World Bank will provide financial assistance to Georgia for economic revitalization of IDPs. The World Bank presented a report in Tbilisi on 'Supporting the livelihoods of refugees: Review of current practices and lessons learned'. The seminar was attended by representatives of donor organizations and civil society, the Minister of Refugees and Accommodation, David Darakhvelidze, Senior Social Development Specialist of World Bank Joana de Boer and other officials.
The seminar presented photographic material of the projects that have been carried out by international and donor organizations in the form of economic activity.
As David Darakhvelidze told reporters, the World Bank conducted a survey among the refugees about their sources of income in order to develop appropriate strategies to improve their social status. According to him, following the development of the strategy and action plan, the European Union will provide ˆ5 million for refugees, and the World Bank - $2 million. The money will be used for the development of small and medium-sized businesses. (Trend)
