The non-governmental organization Transparency International Georgia carried out special research dedicated to the financial support of religious organizations by the Georgian state. Naturally it has become clear that the Georgian Orthodox Church, which is the major confession in Georgia, receives the greatest support from the state which is about 200 million GEL since 2002. Finances to the church go as direct cash flow for financing different projects. The Georgian Church receives financial support for different sources as well, including the local municipalities, Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Internal Affairs and other state organizations.
