Many analysts observe that there was a certain tendency within the Georgian advertising market during the previous administration. The market was mainly controlled by the companies that were under the influence of the United National Movement (UNM). Under these circumstances, the free media complained about the total control over the advertising market which created the misbalance of the entire advertising system in Georgia. Transparency International Georgia carried out special research concerning this issue. According to the results of the observation, the money spent on advertising in 2013 has decreased compared to the previous year. The observation suggested that a large portion of the advertising money goes to TV. However, the revenues of the so-called pro-government TV stations– Rustavi 2 and Imedi TV received from advertising in 2012 have decreased; whereas the revenues of the so-called independent channels like Maestro, Kavkasia and TV9 have increased.
