In September 2013 the construction of the Tbilisi-Rustavi highway will begin. The length of the motorway will be 17.4 km. The Asian Development Bank is studying the project and presumably will finance it. The highway will begin at Ortachala Bus Station in Tbilisi, continue to Rustavi and eventually onwards to the Red Bridge border crossing point between Georgia and Azerbaijan. The Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development has stated that the highway will meet international safety and construction standards.
