Sheep export decreases

According to Rezonansi newspaper, export of sheep to Iran and Arab countries has decreased. The biggest importer of Georgian sheep is Azerbaijan. There are more than 100,000 sheep on sale. However, there is not much demand for it. The buyers prefer going to Moldova or Romania. The analysts explain this trend by the increase of prices of sheep in Georgia. The cost of one sheep in Georgia is around $110-120; whereas 2-3 years ago sheep were sold at half of the current price. The farmers involved in sheep breeding explain why they can't reduce the price. The major issue here is the deficit of grazing pastures. Georgia still has a high potential of developing this segment of agriculture but it needs state support.
