European Union has officially declared that it will not sign the initial agreement with Armenia with regard to its association membership in the EU. Press secretary of the European Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy, Peter Stano, stated that this is the final decision of the EU because Armenia has decided to join the Customs Union. Stano added that the EU is now trying to find the solutions on how to continue relations with Armenia. It was on September 3, 2013 when Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan announced during his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow, that his country would join the Russian-led Customs Union and later its Eurasian Economic union. Armenia hoped it would benefit from joining the European and Russian unions simultaneously, but in vain.
