Record grape price for Khvanchkara
Friday, October 25
Zaza Dugladze, head of the Dugladze Wine Company, says that this year, Alexandrouli and Mujuretuli grapes, from which Khvanchkara wine is made, cost 8-10 lari per kilogram. A bottle of Khvanchkara costs $15, and this price does not include the cost of transportation, customs duties and other expenses, he notes.
Demand for semi-sweet Khvanchkara is mainly from Asia and not Europe and America.
Global demand for sweet wines has declined, and it is mostly consumed in post-Soviet countries, Dugladze notes. Khvanchkara is very popular in Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan. (BPI)
